A meeting on flood defence planning was held on 11 December 2025 to assess the potential use of part of the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course as a water retention area to help reduce flood risks within the city.
The Mayor of Hua Hin City Municipality assigned Deputy Mayor Saranphop Uengratsamee to lead the discussion and site inspection, alongside Municipal Clerk Jeerawat Phramanee and senior civil engineer Thatchanon Chantakul from the municipal Engineering Division. The session focused on how existing open land could support a wider flood defence system for Hua Hin.
The municipal team was joined by Suwat Satama, Director of Public Works and Town and Country Planning for Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, together with a working group from the Hydro–Informatics Institute (Public Organisation). Representatives from the 52nd Engineering Battalion in Ratchaburi, officials from the State Railway of Thailand’s Wang Klang Section, and other relevant agencies also took part.
Planning water retention at Royal Hua Hin Golf Course
Discussions were held on site at the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, where officials examined the terrain and surrounding drainage patterns. The aim was to identify suitable areas that could temporarily store excess water during periods of heavy rainfall and release it in a controlled manner, reducing pressure on drainage systems and nearby communities.
According to officials involved, the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course offers a large, centrally located area that could be integrated into flood defence planning without major structural changes. Using the site as part of a water retention system would complement existing canals and drainage infrastructure within Hua Hin City Municipality.
The meeting also considered technical requirements, including water flow modelling, coordination with railway infrastructure, and the need to ensure any proposed design does not disrupt existing land use. Input from the Hydro–Informatics Institute was used to support data-based planning and long-term flood management.
Authorities said the site visit was an early step in refining the design framework for flood prevention works. Further studies and coordination between local and provincial agencies will be required before any construction or modifications are approved.
Hua Hin City Municipality has faced recurring flooding in low-lying areas during intense rainfall in recent years. Officials say improving water retention capacity is a key part of reducing flood impacts and protecting residential and commercial areas across the city.
