Trash Hero Hua Hin marked its 500th clean-up on Sunday 15 February, reaching a milestone for one of the town’s longest-running volunteer-led environmental initiatives.
The 500th clean-up took place at Khao Takiab, in front of the Phra Yuen area, where 22 volunteers spent one hour removing litter from the shoreline and surrounding public spaces. In total, they collected 66 kilogrammes of waste, including five kilogrammes of recyclable materials.
Organisers said the achievement reflects years of consistent community involvement, with volunteers turning out week after week since the group was established as part of the wider Trash Hero movement.

The event did not end when the rubbish bags were tied off. After the clean-up, volunteers gathered at Tamarind Market to mark the occasion. In keeping with the group’s principles, participants brought reusable tableware from home to avoid single-use containers, reducing additional waste during the celebration.
Members said the small decision illustrated how everyday choices can help reduce litter. They noted that wider adoption of measures such as drinking water refill stations, container return systems, paper bags, glass bottles and a reduction in unnecessary single-use plastics could significantly cut the amount of waste entering public areas.
Trash Hero Hua Hin operates weekly clean-up activities every Sunday and encourages residents and visitors to take part. Beyond collecting litter, the group supports initiatives aimed at reducing waste at source and improving recycling practices.
Trash Hero is a global volunteer-led movement that began in Thailand in 2013. It focuses on reducing plastic pollution through regular clean-ups, water refill networks and environmental education for children, with the aim of changing long-term consumer behaviour.
