Officials in Prachuap Khiri Khan have reviewed efforts to address wild elephant problems in Hua Hin and Kui Buri, including assistance and compensation for affected residents.
Deputy Governor Phanphat Sitthisak chaired the meeting at Provincial Hall on Tuesday, 15 September. It was the first meeting of 2026 for the committee coordinating the response in the two districts.
Somjet Chanthana, director of the Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment, attended alongside representatives of district chiefs and other relevant agencies.
The committee reviewed reports on prevention work and the activities of operational teams in Hua Hin and Kui Buri. It also heard reports on elephants straying outside protected areas in Khao Chao subdistrict, Pranburi, and the impact on surrounding communities.
Officials outlined arrangements for providing assistance and compensation to affected residents to help ease hardship and build confidence among local communities.
The meeting also considered amendments to the official orders governing the provincial committee and district operational teams responsible for tackling wild elephant problems. The proposed changes are intended to ensure those arrangements reflect conditions on the ground.
The province said its approach aimed to reduce the impact on residents while protecting natural resources and wildlife, supporting sustainable coexistence between people and elephants.
