Kuiburi national park rangers in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province said they have found skeleton of a rare Javan rhinoceros
which went extinct from the country many decades ago.
Chief of the marine resources conservation of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources Mr. Wan Chatree said as the park rangers were on a field inspection of the Khao Kwang coastal area in Kuiburi, they were informed by villagers that they found a big skull of a large animal in the sea about 100 metres from the shore. They went to inspect and initially they suspected the skull might be that of the Javan rhinoceros, which is amongst species that went extinct from Thailand many decades ago.
