Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul has ordered Chatchai Market repairs after traders raised concerns about drainage, slippery flooring, roof leaks and other maintenance problems.

The mayor visited the market on Thursday, 13 August, accompanied by municipal advisers, councillors and senior officials from departments including finance, engineering, public health and sanitary engineering.

During the inspection, traders highlighted several issues affecting the market, including blocked drains, slippery floor tiles, leaking sections of the roof and bird droppings inside the building.

Some traders also asked the municipality to consider installing additional roofing to provide better protection from rain.

Mayor Nopporn instructed the relevant municipal departments to address the problems and carry out the necessary repairs.

Chatchai Market renovation plans

The latest inspection comes as Hua Hin Municipality continues preparations for a wider renovation of the historic market.

The municipality approved plans last year to modernise Chatchai Market while retaining the features that form part of its cultural and architectural identity.

Built in 1926, the market is known for its distinctive semi-circular design, comprising seven connected sections. It remains a well-known shopping destination in central Hua Hin, selling fresh seafood, dried goods, food and souvenirs.

Under the approved renovation plan, Chatchai Market 1 is expected to be developed as a centre for food, souvenirs and other goods.

The immediate Chatchai Market repairs raised during Thursday’s inspection will be handled by the relevant municipal departments.
