Kaeng Krachan Dam under watch amid Phetchaburi rain

The government is closely monitoring heavy rainfall in Phetchaburi and conditions at Kaeng Krachan Dam, with further rain forecast for the province and neighbouring Prachuap Khiri Khan on 10–11 October.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana said on Sunday, 4 October, that Phetchaburi required particular attention despite water levels beginning to fall in the Mae Klong and Chao Phraya river basins.

Speaking at the Joint Flood Information Centre at Government House, she said conditions at Kaeng Krachan Dam and rainfall expected around 10 October remained factors to watch. Southern Thailand and Chachoengsao also remained at risk of flash floods and forest runoff.

Further rain forecast for Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan

The Thai Meteorological Department expects rain across the lower central region, Bangkok and the south on 5 October, followed by heavier rainfall in the south, west and east on 6 October.

Further rain is forecast for southern Thailand on 8–9 October. Rain is then expected across the central region, Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the east and the south on 10–11 October, including Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district.

Conditions in central Thailand are expected to improve between 12 and 14 October, with rainfall shifting towards the south.

Elsewhere, water flowing through Nakhon Sawan was measured at 2,200 cubic metres per second on Sunday, while the Chao Phraya Dam was releasing 2,500 cubic metres per second.

Residents along rivers in affected provinces were urged to follow official announcements closely. In the Mae Klong basin, Bang Khonthi and Amphawa districts remained under observation because floodwater was awaiting drainage into the river.

Flooding also affected several roads in Chachoengsao and Bangkok’s Lat Krabang area. Motorists were advised to avoid flooded routes and check Department of Highways updates before travelling.
