Hua Hin Municipality has held an active shooter drill at Khao Phithak Municipal School, training teachers, staff and students in how to respond to an armed attack on school grounds.
The training took place on Tuesday, 18 August, with Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul presiding over the opening session.
Officers from Hua Hin Police Station provided instruction on active shooter incidents and the “Run, Hide, Fight” approach, which sets out steps people can take to protect themselves during an attack.
Teachers, school staff and students then took part in a practical emergency response exercise to put the procedures into practice.
Active shooter training to expand across Hua Hin
Mayor Nopporn said the municipality had been monitoring reports of violent incidents involving armed individuals at educational institutions and considered it necessary to strengthen preparedness at its schools and child development centres.
He said the training was intended to improve awareness, help participants remain calm during an emergency and ensure they understand the correct procedures to follow if a serious incident occurs.
The drill also allowed officials to review existing emergency response plans and assess potential strengths and weaknesses in school security arrangements.
Representatives from Hua Hin Police Station, municipal officials, school administrators, teachers and students took part in the exercise.
Those attending included Deputy Mayor Busaba Choksuchart, mayoral adviser Pol Col Samer Yusamran, Municipal Clerk Jirawat Phramanee and Pol Lt Col Worot Krungkarnjana, Deputy Superintendent of Hua Hin Police Station.
Training planned at nine municipal facilities
Hua Hin Municipality said the active shooter drill and related safety training will be extended to all seven schools and two child development centres under its supervision.
The municipality said the programme is intended to improve emergency preparedness and give parents and local communities greater confidence in how schools would respond to a serious security incident.
