So-called ‘smart poles’ are being installed at key locations across Hua Hin as part of efforts to strengthen public safety and support the development of smart infrastructure.
Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul, accompanied by Municipal Councillor Sunthee Tiamthat, Municipal Clerk Jeerawat Phrommanee and Jirathipat Luengnaruethai, Head of Information and Communication Technology at the Strategy and Budget Division, recently visited the area around Hua Hin Railway Station to test the newly installed smart pole system. Members of the media were also present during the site visit.
The initiative forms part of the Hua Hin Smart City Phase 1 project, under which Hua Hin City Municipality has installed no fewer than 30 CCTV cameras along with related equipment throughout the municipal area. Officials say the installation of Hua Hin smart poles is intended to improve safety, increase convenience for residents and visitors, and enhance overall quality of life.
Smart poles and CCTV system rolled out
Three network-based smart pole units with adjustable-view CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations, including the Hua Hin Night Market area, a beach access point and near Hua Hin Railway Station. These units are designed to support general security monitoring and incident prevention.
In addition, 28 fixed-view network CCTV cameras have been installed outdoors to support image analysis for security operations. A further two fixed-view cameras have been introduced to detect and analyse vehicle licence plates, with systems capable of operating at speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour. The project was formally handed over to the municipality in February 2026.
During the recent inspection, officials and media representatives tested the smart pole system to better understand its functionality and assess performance in real conditions. Authorities also used the visit to raise public awareness about the technology and its intended benefits.
Each smart pole integrates several features within a single structure. These include energy-efficient LED lighting to improve night-time visibility, CCTV cameras for monitoring public areas, and an emergency SOS button that can be used to request assistance. The poles are also equipped with communication systems that allow additional smart devices to be installed in the future.
Municipal officials say the rollout represents a step towards building confidence among residents and tourists while supporting Hua Hin’s longer-term goal of becoming a safe, liveable and sustainable city.
