Hua Hin launches “Bright Age, Away from Dementia” project to support elderly health

Hua Hin City Municipality has launched the “Bright Age, Away from Dementia” project, aimed at promoting health and improving the quality of life among elderly residents.

The initiative was officially opened on 19 August at the Golden Sea Hotel in Hua Hin, with Sinat O-iam, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, presiding over the ceremony. The event was organised by the Medical Division of Hua Hin City Municipality and attended by more than 250 elderly participants from local communities.

Joining the ceremony were Nopporn Wutthikul, Mayor of Hua Hin City, along with municipal executives, Hua Hin District Public Health officials, and representatives from local and national organisations.

Speakers from agencies including the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Public Health Office, the Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, Thammasat University’s Faculty of Social Work, and several municipalities across Thailand shared expertise on topics ranging from physical health care and exercise to mental health and group participation.

Mayor Nopporn noted that dementia is increasingly common among the elderly in Thailand, with cases rising each year. He emphasised the importance of prevention and proper health care to reduce risks, adding that projects like this are essential to help older adults maintain their well-being and remain active members of society.

The project focuses on encouraging self-care, knowledge exchange, and community participation, with the aim of establishing sustainable elderly care networks. Hua Hin City Municipality said the programme reflects its commitment to supporting the city’s ageing population and ensuring older residents can continue to live with dignity and happiness.
