Nine-night Hua Hin heritage festival draws Thai and international visitors
The nine-night Hua Hin heritage festival at the old railway station came to an end on Tuesday evening, with Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Sittichai Sawat Saen using the closing ceremony to confirm he will retire from government service next month.
Governor Sittichai and Provincial Tourism and Sports Officer Sittichai Tansit presided over the closing of the “Under the Royal Patronage: Tourism of Si Khiri Khan” event at 8pm on August 18.
The festival ran for nine nights and featured cultural performances and activities representing all eight districts of Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Governor attended all nine nights

Governor Sittichai said he had attended the festival each night and was encouraged by the number of visitors, including tourists from Bangkok and international travellers.
He said the Hua Hin heritage festival had provided an opportunity for each of the province’s eight districts to showcase its culture and local identity.
The governor, who is due to retire in September, said responsibility for continuing the event would now pass to his successor.
He thanked Hua Hin Municipality, Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul, district officials from across the province and the State Railway of Thailand, which provided the old railway station as the venue.
The event was also organised as a royal merit-making tribute to Her Majesty the Queen Mother.
Bang Saphan Noi takes the stage
The final evening featured performances from students representing Bang Saphan Noi district.
Their programme included songs associated with Prachuap Khiri Khan and a presentation highlighting traditional agriculture, including the cultivation of Bang Berd watermelons, a variety pioneered by M.C. Sitthiporn Kritsadakorn.
Entertainment also came from the Cherry Pring band, with traditional ramwong dancing and ballroom dancing to older songs intended to recreate the atmosphere of Hua Hin in an earlier era.
