Hua Hin Municipality has provided an update on the ongoing renovation of Pone Kingpetch Public Park, an urban activity area named in honour of Thailand’s first boxing world champion.
The project, located on Damnoen Kasem Road, aims to revitalise the space with modern facilities while preserving its historical significance.
At the 35th meeting of the Coordination, Monitoring, and Inspection Committee (CPT) for 2024, Mr. Siraphan Kamonpramote, Advisor to the Mayor of Hua Hin, chaired discussions alongside Mr. Udom Duangkae, Chairman of the Municipal Council, and other committee members. The meeting, held at the Poolsuk Room of the Hua Hin Municipality Office, included a site visit to assess progress on the renovation.
The project involves significant upgrades, including the demolition of the existing performance stage and activity area to make way for a new building designed to host performances and community events. The single-storey structure will span at least 444.50 square metres, with dimensions of 14.00 metres in width and 43.65 metres in length. Key features of the building include a modern performance stage, separate restrooms for men, women, and individuals with disabilities, as well as dressing rooms equipped with attached restrooms. The facility will also house a generator and an electrical control room.
Beyond the building, the renovation includes a new urban activity area covering at least 2,000 square metres, with dimensions of 49.00 metres in width and 41.00 metres in length. Enhanced utility systems will be installed, including interior and exterior lighting, high-voltage electrical systems, and sanitation facilities.
The total budget for the project is 22.8 million baht, and the current phase involves pile-driving to establish the foundation. Completion is expected by 3 July 2025.
As part of the redevelopment, the iconic statue of Pone Kingpetch will be relocated to its original site, serving as a focal point to commemorate the legacy of the celebrated boxer. Kingpetch, who passed away in 1982, remains a source of national pride for Thailand, and in June 2023, he was posthumously inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
