The annual ‘Blessing of the Fleet’ ceremony will return to Hua Hin on Sunday, 7 September 2025, continuing a tradition that honours the town’s historic connection to the sea and its fishing community.
Held at the Chao Mae Tubtim Shrine, near the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, the ceremony is organised by members of the Hua Hin fishing and coastal communities. It serves as a moment to pay respect to ancestors, offer protection for local fishermen, and express gratitude for the ocean’s continued abundance.
What is the Blessing of the Fleet in Hua Hin?
One of the central parts of the event is the “Sea Offering” ritual, where thousands of small plaster figurines are released into the sea. The figurines, which represent men, women, and children, are inscribed with names or wishes and placed in a specially adorned boat. The vessel is then taken out to the waters off Khao Krong—an area known for its rich marine life—where it is released. This tradition is believed to carry away misfortunes and bring blessings to those taking part.
The event begins at 9:00 a.m. with merit-making and an offering to the sea deity, followed by a blessing ceremony conducted by monks. At midday, the boat carrying the figurines will be taken out and released into the ocean.
Locals and visitors are encouraged to participate by exchanging figurines, either on the day at the ceremony venue or in advance at Wat Hua Hin’s Phra Nak Shrine, between 08:00 and 14:00.
Originally revived nearly two decades ago, the ‘Blessing of the Fleet’ remains a key cultural event in Hua Hin’s calendar. Beyond the ceremonial activities, it offers a rare opportunity for the wider community to witness a tradition deeply rooted in the lives of those who depend on the sea.
