Plans to install underground cables in Hua Hin along a 600-metre section of , also known as Soi 76, have received backing from local residents.
The 71.87-million-baht project will cover the route from Hua Hin Railway Station to the junction with Naresdamri Road.
Residents approved the proposal by a show of hands during a public consultation held on Monday, 24 August.
Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul attended the meeting alongside Narong Mek-amphol, manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority’s Hua Hin office, engineers and representatives of local communities.
Under the plans, both high- and low-voltage power cables will be placed underground to improve the streetscape and reduce the clutter caused by utility poles and overhead cables.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, once the design work has been completed and a contractor appointed. The project is expected to take approximately 365 days to complete.
Hua Hin Municipality and PEA to share project costs
Hua Hin Municipality will contribute more than 25 million baht towards the project, while the Provincial Electricity Authority will provide more than 46 million baht.
Mayor Nopporn said moving the cables underground would make the area more orderly and improve the appearance of one of the city’s main tourist routes.
The municipality also plans to modify the central reservation on Damnoen Kasem Road. The reclaimed space would be used to add traffic lanes and widen the road.
If further funding becomes available, the municipality intends to extend the underground cabling scheme to Chomsin Road, including the area around the Jee An Tung intersection.
