Hua Hin Municipality is reducing the volume of its public announcement system and changing its broadcasting schedule following concerns from residents about disruption.

Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul announced the changes on Tuesday, 18 August, after calling a meeting to review the municipality’s wireless public address network.

Officials agreed to reduce the volume at certain locations to what the municipality described as more appropriate levels, while also introducing a revised timetable for broadcasts.

Under the new schedule, the Thai national anthem will continue to be played every day at 8am and 6pm.

From Monday to Friday, municipal news and public information will be broadcast between noon and 12.30pm, and again from 5.30pm to 6pm.

On Saturdays, only recorded radio announcement spots will be broadcast during those periods.

There will be no public information broadcasts on Sundays.

The municipality said the changes were intended to reduce the impact of the announcements on residents while maintaining a reliable way of providing local information.

Mayor Nopporn said Hua Hin Municipality would continue to receive comments and suggestions from residents as it reviews how the system is used.

How Thailand’s community loudspeaker systems work

Public announcement systems are common in towns, villages and communities across Thailand and remain an important way for local authorities to communicate directly with residents.

Known in Thai as *siang tam sai*, the systems traditionally relied on loudspeakers connected by cable, although many local authorities, including Hua Hin Municipality, now use wireless technology.

The networks are commonly used for municipal announcements, public health information, community events, official notices and urgent information.

Community broadcasting systems have long formed part of Thailand’s local communications infrastructure and are subject to Ministry of Interior regulations. Thailand’s Public Relations Department has previously referred to a nationwide network of around 80,000 village loudspeaker systems.
