A major upgrade to the Khao Hin Lek Fai viewpoint is set to move forward, with officials approving an expanded development plan aimed at improving one of Hua Hin’s most recognisable tourist sites.
The project, led by Nopporn Wutthikul and Hua Hin City Municipality, will see the total budget increase to 120 million baht. The development is expected to be completed within the 2026 fiscal year.
Officials met on 27 March to review progress on the second phase of the development in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning and provincial authorities. The project forms part of the Lower Central Provinces Cluster 2 development framework, which focuses on upgrading key tourist destinations to better support long-term growth.
Khao Hin Lek Fai viewpoint, which overlooks Hua Hin and offers a range of panoramic views, is a key component of the plan. The site includes several designated viewpoints, including locations known for city views as well as sunrise and sunset observation points, making it one of the most visited vantage points in the area.
Expanded development plans for Khao Hin Lek Fai viewpoint
Initial proposals for the second phase included upgrades to the main entrance gate, improvements to multiple viewpoints, and enhancements to the King Rama VII plaza. Plans also include the construction of a wheelchair-accessible ramp, allowing improved access for elderly visitors and people with disabilities, as well as general improvements to pedestrian walkways.
However, during the meeting, officials agreed to expand the scope of the project, effectively doubling the budget from an earlier estimate of around 60 million baht to 120 million baht. The additional funding will support a broader range of infrastructure improvements aimed at increasing safety, accessibility and capacity.
Key additions include the full upgrade of both access roads leading to the viewpoint, which are expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, particularly during peak tourist periods. A comprehensive drainage system will also be installed to address water runoff and reduce the risk of flooding or road damage during heavy rain.
Lighting systems will be introduced across the site to improve visibility and safety during early morning and evening hours, when many visitors arrive to view sunrise and sunset. Parking capacity will also be expanded, with new areas designed to accommodate larger vehicles, including tour buses, which are currently limited by space constraints.
Further improvements will focus on enhancing individual viewpoints, including Viewpoints 4, 5, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3. These upgrades will include better viewing platforms, improved safety features and clearer connections between different areas of the site. Plans also include upgrades to the reservoir area and improvements to the tourist service centre.
Officials said the expanded development is intended to modernise the site while maintaining its role as a key attraction for both domestic and international visitors. The project is also expected to support local tourism by improving overall visitor experience and increasing the site’s capacity to handle higher numbers.
Once completed, the upgraded Khao Hin Lek Fai viewpoint is expected to play a central role in strengthening Hua Hin’s tourism infrastructure, while providing improved facilities for residents and visitors.
