Phetchaburi is stepping up its efforts to become a recognised centre for health and wellness tourism, with a renewed push behind its “Wellcation Phetchaburi” initiative.

On 2 July, Deputy Governor Chaiphon Phutonglom presided over the opening of a training session at the Phra Nakhon Khiri meeting room, held at the Provincial Public Health Office. The session aimed to build the capacity of local entrepreneurs involved in the production of community health products.

The training forms part of Phetchaburi’s strategy to develop facilities and services that align with the province’s health and wellness tourism routes. It supports the “Wellcation Phetchaburi” concept, which promotes the idea of “Eat, Travel, Stay, and Live Well” as a means of stimulating economic growth and increasing income opportunities within local communities.

Dr Chatchai Kitiyanant, Chief of the Phetchaburi Provincial Public Health Office, said the programme was in line with the Ministry of Public Health’s 2025 policy to drive the health economy by supporting tourism that meets recognised safety and service standards.

“Our aim is to link Phetchaburi’s health and wellness tourism routes with the Wellcation concept, giving visitors a complete experience—from relaxation and healthy dining to holistic self-care,” Dr Chatchai said. “This not only increases the value of the tourism sector but also distributes income to the wider community.” He added that the training is supported by funding from Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

More than 100 participants attended the session, including health product manufacturers, wellness centre operators, hotel and accommodation providers, restaurant owners, and other tourism-related businesses.

Mr Chaiphon also presented awards to entrepreneurs who had passed evaluation criteria, and thanked government agencies and private sector partners for their cooperation in implementing the province’s policy direction.

“Our goal is to raise the quality of services under the Wellcation Phetchaburi initiative, increase the value of tourism, and better cater to health-conscious travellers,” he said.

The event marks another step forward in Phetchaburi’s efforts to strengthen its reputation as a wellness destination. Authorities say the province is well positioned to connect wellness tourism with local culture, food, and lifestyle, and that the momentum being generated through initiatives such as this will support its recognition on both the domestic and international stage.
