The once-popular Sam Phan Nam Floating Market has reopened in Hua Hin, drawing a crowd of locals and tourists after a pandemic-induced closure and extensive renovations.

The market, which spans more than 100 rai (40 acres) in Thap Tai, now features upgraded facilities, enhanced shopping zones, and various attractions aimed at both Thai and international visitors.

On 1 November, Mr Chaowarat Kerdthong, President of the Thap Tai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, led the official reopening ceremony, joined by local officials, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and members of the Hua Hin/Cha-Am Tourism Business Association.

Also in attendance were Mr Porntep Wisutwattanasak, Chairman of the Strategic Drive Subcommittee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in Prachuap Khiri Khan, along with market owners Mr Anan and Ms Ananda Anareewongskul.

The revitalised market, located approximately 15 kilometres from Hua Hin’s city centre, is divided into three main zones: a souvenir zone, a clothing area with traditional Thai-style fabrics, and a section dedicated to local foods and speciality items unique to Hua Hin. The market is designed with a Balinese-Thai aesthetic, featuring scenic areas intended for photo opportunities, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination.

Entry to Sam Phan Nam Floating Market is free, though visitors can enjoy additional optional activities for a small fee, including a 20-baht train ride, a 40-baht boat trip, and swan boat rentals for 100 baht.

Since reopening, the market has reported a steady stream of visitors, especially over weekends. Hua Hin Today observed a busy atmosphere on Sunday, 3 November, as crowds explored the market’s offerings, from food stalls to souvenir shops.
