The Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan has launched a new initiative aimed at linking religious values with community-based economic development.

On 29 April, Governor Sitthichai Sawatsan presided over the opening ceremony of the “Religious Capital for Community Economy” project at Akmalul Islam Mosque in Ban Wang Maduea, Ao Noi Subdistrict.

The event brought together religious leaders, cultural representatives, and local residents. Among the attendees were Krisana Phangsaengchan, the provincial cultural officer; Chanwit Unhasutthiyanon, Chairman of the Provincial Cultural Council; and Yusob Towang, Chairman of the Provincial Islamic Committee, alongside members of the committee and participants from various faith communities.

The project encourages communities to use religious principles and cultural values as a basis for economic activity. The aim is to promote income-generating opportunities while fostering greater understanding and cooperation between people of different religious and cultural backgrounds.

As part of the programme, participants took part in a knowledge-sharing session exploring three main topics: “Can religious power truly create a peaceful society?”, “Religion and truth in society”, and “Pathways to success in using religious values to build a peaceful society”.

Officials said the initiative is designed to encourage the practical application of religious teachings in ways that benefit the community, not only spiritually but also economically. It also seeks to strengthen understanding of correct religious beliefs and practices within Thai society.

The event is part of a wider provincial push to integrate cultural values into development efforts, with a focus on sustainability, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence.
