Road resurfacing near Hua Hin Dog Shelter is under way after residents raised concerns about potholes, dust and standing water along the route.
On 23 February 2026, Nopporn Wutthikul, Mayor of Hua Hin City, inspected road resurfacing works in front of the Dog Shelter Centre at the entrance to Wat Khao Itisukato. He was joined by Sanphop Ungrasamee, the Mayor’s Secretary, the President of the Municipal Council, councillors and relevant officials.
Hua Hin City Municipality began levelling and filling potholes along the stretch after receiving complaints from residents through municipal councillors. The road surface had become uneven and heavily potholed, leading to traffic difficulties for motorists and visitors to the shelter and temple.
During the dry season, dust has been a persistent issue, while in the rainy season water has collected on the damaged surface, making driving conditions more hazardous.

Officials said the current road resurfacing works are temporary measures aimed at improving access and safety. The municipality is not yet in a position to carry out a full construction project because the land remains under the ownership of Wat Khao Itisukato and is not classified as public land. As a result, a permanent concrete road cannot be built at this stage.
The municipality has coordinated with the abbot of Wat Khao Itisukato to request permission to use the route, and approval has been granted in principle. However, the legal process has not yet been finalised. Formal documentation must either be submitted to the National Office of Buddhism or the land must be officially transferred before any permanent construction can proceed.
Written confirmation from the abbot will also be required to ensure the road would not be closed in the future if the municipality invests in a concrete upgrade.
The Mayor said that once ownership and permission procedures are fully completed, the municipality is ready to propose a full road construction project for inclusion in its operational plan, with the aim of upgrading the entire stretch to a concrete road.
For now, the temporary road resurfacing near Hua Hin Dog Shelter is expected to ease immediate concerns raised by residents and improve daily access to the area.
