Provincial officials have reviewed preparations for the possible reopening of the Singkhon border checkpoint, including arrangements for travellers, vehicles and cross-border trade.
Prachuap Khiri Khan Deputy Governor Preeda Sukjai chaired the meeting on 15 July at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine building in Khlong Wan, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan district.
The meeting brought together district officials, security agencies and representatives from relevant government departments.
Those attending included Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan District Chief Neramit Lueang-aramfa, Chong Ang Suek Task Force Deputy Commander Colonel Phriao Liangcheepchop and Provincial Defence Officer Chaichan Munmak.
Preparations for possible border reopening
Officials were briefed on the security situation along the Thai–Myanmar border, including developments in the Ban Maw Daung area of Myanmar.
They discussed procedures that would be required if entry and exit through the Singkhon border checkpoint were permitted to resume. The talks also covered the import and export of goods and the need for operations to comply with government security measures.
The deputy governor reviewed the readiness of local agencies to issue border passes and inspect people and vehicles travelling through the checkpoint.
Other preparations include disease screening, animal and plant inspections, and the construction of a cargo transfer area. The Fish Marketing Organisation is responsible for developing the transfer facility.
Officials also assessed whether the Singkhon border building was ready to accommodate government agencies and provide suitable working areas.
No date for reopening the checkpoint was announced at the meeting.
