The Songkran Festival officially opened in Hua Hin on Saturday, with celebrations taking place along Damnoenkasem Road in the centre of the city.
The opening ceremony began at 7 p.m. and was presided over by Hua Hin District Chief Prasoot Hombunthoeng. Also present were Acting Mayor and Secretary of Hua Hin Municipality Jeerawat Phramanee, who gave the welcoming address, along with Niti Vongvichasvadi, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Hua Hin Office, and Kitipong Siriphetkasem, President of the Hua Hin-Cha-Am Tourism Association.
The event drew a large crowd, including teachers, local officials, and members of the public. Former Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul and his team were also in attendance.

In his remarks, Jeerawat noted that Songkran remains an important Thai tradition, celebrated across the country, and that the municipality had organised the festivities to warmly welcome both domestic and international tourists.
This year’s event features traditional performances, children’s activities including foam play zones, and cultural games such as “Mae Sri” and “Phi Phung Tai.” A stage set up in front of the municipal offices is also hosting live music.
The celebrations continue on Sunday, 13 April, with a morning programme beginning at 10 a.m. Activities will include a Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony, where younger generations pour water to pay respect to elders, and a bathing ritual for the Phra Phuttha Sihing Buddha image. A street parade featuring the Nang Songkran, or Songkran Goddess, will also take place, highlighting cultural aspects of the Thai New Year for locals and visitors alike.
Songkran in Hua Hin is expected to draw significant crowds over the holiday period, with the municipality encouraging safe and respectful celebrations.
