Three suspects have been arrested following a murder at Hua Hin fishing pier, in which a Myanmar migrant worker was fatally stabbed after a dispute on New Year’s Eve, police said.
Investigators from Hua Hin Police Station detained three young men within hours of the attack, recovering a knife believed to have been used in the killing. The arrests followed an intensive manhunt that police said was completed in under 16 hours.
According to police, the incident occurred on 31 December at a fishing pier in Hua Hin Subdistrict. Officers were alerted to an assault and found the victim seriously injured. He was taken to Hua Hin Hospital, where he later died. The victim was identified as Her Hai Yin, 20, a Myanmar national.
Dispute escalated into fatal stabbing
Police said an examination of the scene found liquor and beer bottles, broken glass and bloodstains on the ground. Witnesses told investigators that the victim and several friends had been drinking at the pier when a bottle was thrown to the ground, shattering and causing a loud noise.
The sound reportedly drew the attention of another group sitting nearby. A verbal exchange followed, before the confrontation escalated into violence. The victim was stabbed during the altercation, while his friends fled the area, police said.
On 3 January, Pol Col Kampanat Na Wichai, superintendent of Hua Hin Police Station, said officers arrested an 18-year-old suspect and seized the knife allegedly used in the attack. Two other suspects, aged 19 and 20, were also detained. All three were arrested at their residences in the Nong Kae area.
Following the killing, the commander of Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Police ordered investigators to question witnesses and review CCTV footage to trace the suspects’ movements. Police said the suspects were informed of the charges and their legal rights before being handed over to investigators for further proceedings.
Authorities did not immediately disclose the specific charges or whether the suspects had legal representation.
