Thailand alcohol sales ban dates confirmed for February elections
Just a heads-up for residents, visitors, and business owners. Thailand will see two nationwide alcohol sales bans linked to the upcoming parliamentary elections, covering all provinces.
Following an announcement by the Election Commission of Thailand, the sale, distribution, free provision, or hosting of events involving all types of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited during the following periods:
1. Advance voting
- Starts: 6:00 pm, Saturday 31 January 2026
- Ends: 6:00 pm, Sunday 1 February 2026
2. Election day
- Starts: 6:00 pm, Saturday 7 February 2026
- Ends: 6:00 pm, Sunday 8 February 2026
The ban applies nationwide and covers shops, bars, restaurants, and any form of alcohol distribution.
Penalties for violations
Those who breach the ban face up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.
Businesses and consumers are urged to plan ahead and comply strictly with the law.
