Racer Marina in Pranburi, near Hua Hin, is set to host Thailand’s first-ever water jousting contest on Saturday, 14 September 2024.
The event, which runs from 10:00 to 18:00, will be held at the marina’s scenic location, offering a unique experience for both competitors and spectators.
Water jousting, a sport with roots tracing back to Ancient Greece, is a form of jousting where two participants, each equipped with a lance, stand on a platform at the stern of a boat. The objective is to unseat the opponent and send them into the water while maintaining one’s own balance.
The boats, powered by oarsmen or motors, propel the competitors towards each other in this thrilling contest. Although primarily practiced in France, with notable events in towns like Sète, this will be the first time the sport is introduced to Thailand.
“We are thrilled to bring water jousting to Thailand for the first time,” said Philippe-Marie Oursel, General Manager of Racer Marina.
“This event not only showcases the rich tradition of the sport but also highlights the versatility of the Jonny Boats, making it an exciting day for both participants and spectators.”
The Racer Marina contest will feature Jonny Boats, a hybrid between a boat and a kayak, known for its stability and versatility.
These vessels, imported by Honda Marine Co., Ltd. and distributed by The CubHouse – Petchaburi, are powered by the Honda outboard engine model BF2.3HD, and will be used exclusively for the event.
The Jonny Boat’s ability to be customized, including the option to add a small outboard engine, makes it an ideal choice for the competition.
In addition to the water jousting contest, which is open to every ‘weekend-warrior’ to participate, the event will include an exhibition where attendees can explore and test Jonny Boats and accessories, as well as Honda motorbikes and products from the Cub House by Honda and Honda Big Wing Hua Hin.
This 3-in-1 sport and exhibition event offers adventurers, fishermen, and bikers a chance to engage with cutting-edge mechanics in a unique environment where local wildlife, including wild peacocks and wading birds, can often be seen.
“Racer Marina is committed to creating unique and memorable experiences for our visitors,” Philippe added.
Philippe also extended an invitation to the community, saying, “We warmly invite locals, expats, and families to come and enjoy this one-of-a-kind event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience something new and exciting, right here in Pranburi.”
The event is sponsored by Honda Marine, Jonny Boats, Honda, Time to Ride Cub House, and Bigwing Hua Hin.
