More than 60 people attended Hua Hin Film Club’s first screening on Sunday, 6 September, joining actor Vithaya Pansringarm for an evening of cinema at Amara Resort Hua Hin.
The club launched with Only God Forgives, the 2013 crime thriller directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas and Vithaya. Set in Bangkok, the film follows an American caught in a violent cycle of revenge, with Vithaya playing Chang, a formidable Thai police officer.
Vithaya, who is also a founding committee member and film adviser to the club, attended the screening.
The launch marks the start of a programme designed to bring residents, visitors and film enthusiasts together through screenings, discussions and opportunities to meet actors and filmmakers. More events are planned in the coming months, with the club intending to hold monthly gatherings at different venues across Hua Hin.

Speaking ahead of the launch, club chair Dirk De Cuyper said the aim was to create a welcoming meeting place for people with a shared interest in film.
“We are delighted to launch the Hua Hin Film Club as a new space for discovery, dialogue and community,” Dirk said.
“Our goal is to present films that inspire, entertain and open conversations, while creating a warm and engaging environment for everyone who loves cinema. We will also support local filmmakers to join the club and show their work.”

Alongside film screenings, the planned programme includes member gatherings, post-screening discussions and special events connecting audiences with people involved in making the films.
The club also hopes to give local filmmakers opportunities to share their work, helping audiences discover films and voices they might otherwise miss.
Movie lovers can find more information and announcements about upcoming events on the Hua Hin Film Club Facebook page.
