A Hua Hin methamphetamine seizure has uncovered 185,800 pills worth an estimated 10 million baht inside an SUV previously impounded following a fake number plate arrest.
Police said the drugs were found on Wednesday, 2 September, in a modified compartment beneath the bodywork and rear seats of a Toyota Fortuner.
The search was led by Hua Hin Police Station superintendent Pol Col Kampanat Na Wichai and deputy investigations superintendent Pol Lt Col Sompong Yuyued. Officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 7 and the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Forensic Science Centre also took part.
Vehicle held after fake number plate arrest
Highway Police had stopped the vehicle on the southbound carriageway of Highway 37 in Hin Lek Fai.
A 49-year-old man from Satun province, identified by police as “Mr A”, was arrested on charges of forging and using an official document, specifically a counterfeit number plate.
The suspect was charged and later released on bail, while the vehicle remained in police custody for forensic examination.
Officials from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 7 subsequently contacted Hua Hin police after intelligence allegedly linked the suspect and the vehicle to the transportation of a large quantity of illegal drugs to southern Thailand.
A detailed examination was requested, and officers used X-ray equipment to inspect the vehicle. The Hua Hin methamphetamine seizure followed the discovery of the pills beneath the rear seating area.
Police confiscated the drugs as evidence and are gathering further information to seek court approval for an arrest warrant in connection with the alleged drug offence.
